- On the surface, “office” and “party” may seem like polar opposite terms. Office parties of any type—but perhaps especially holiday parties—have earned a nasty reputation as obligations to be suffered through rather than pleasurable activities to be enjoyed.
That can all change when you introduce these office holiday party games. Not only will they liven up any gathering, but they’re legitimately fun. If you want your guests to feel excited at the party (instead of feeling excited to leave), then give any of these fun party games a whirl.

- Who Am I?
Let’s take a closer look at each.
-
Famous lines
Prior to the party, write out a list of quotes from popular holiday movies. Write each quote on a separate slip of paper, then place all the slips in a bowl. When it’s time to play the game, pull out one slip at a time and ask participants to guess the name of the movie each quote comes from. The person with the most correct guesses at the end of the game is crowned the winner.

Holiday ABCs
Divide your guests into teams and provide each team with a piece of paper and a pen. Then ask them to write the alphabet vertically on their piece of paper (so A is at the top and Z is at the bottom). When the game begins, ask the teams to come up with a holiday-related word for each letter and start the clock. The first team to finish their list (accurately) wins.
-
Holiday charades
Before guests arrive, write different holiday themed activities, movies, or songs (or another theme of your choice) on separate slips of paper. Then place all the slips in a bowl. Once guests are ready to play, divide into two teams; each team takes turns. During each turn, one teammate will pull a slip from the bowl and act it out without speaking. Their teammates spend the next 30 seconds (or a time limit of your choice) guessing what their team member is acting out. At the end of the game, the team with the most correct guesses wins.
-
Holiday trivia
Write down as many holiday-themed questions as you can think of on separate slips of paper (be sure to number the slips), then post the slips around the party room. Encourage guests to write down their answers to the questions during the party (making sure to write down the number of each question alongside their answers). At the end of the party, award a prize to the guest with the most correct answers.
Questions can be as far ranging as you’d like, or they could center around a specific theme such as movies, songs, or cultural traditions.
- Who was caught kissing Santa Claus?
- How do you say “merry Christmas” in Spanish?
- What is the name of the rabbit in the magic hat in Frosty the Snowman?
- According to a popular song, the dreidel was made out of what?
-
How many ornaments
This game works provided your office has decorated a tree of any kind. If that’s the case, then the process is simple: As guests arrive to the party, ask them to guess how many ornaments they think are on the tree (without physically counting them!) and then write down their guesses. At the end of the party, reveal who guessed correctly—or got the closest—and award them a prize.
-
Name the holiday song
Turn up the speakers and challenge guests to guess the name of popular holiday songs after listening to just a snippet of the lyrics. Up the ante by asking guests to name the artist as well as the song, or read a snippet of the lyrics instead of playing it. Make sure to include a variety of older and newer songs as well as songs from all denominations to keep the game inclusive. The person with the most correct guesses wins.
-
Who am I?
Prior to the party, come up with a list of holiday-related characters, such as Frosty the Snowman, Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer, and so on. (Make sure to include characters from a variety of denominations.) Write each character’s name on a piece of paper.
As guests arrive, use sticky notes to stick one of the pieces of paper on each guest’s back (where they can’t see it). Then, during the party, guests can ask each other yes or no questions attempt to figure out their character. For example, they may ask, “Am I a human?” or “Am I fictional?”
Once a person guesses their character, they can stick their paper slip on the wall. The first person to guess correctly wins, though the game continues until everyone accurately guesses their assigned persona.
